WebSurveyor Offers Hosted Survey Solution Through Its Academic Grant Program

HERNDON, VA - (September 19, 2005) -- WebSurveyor Corporation, the leading provider of online survey solutions and services, announced today that it has made its hosted survey solution available to colleges and universities worldwide through its Academic Grant program, eliminating the need for additional IT infrastructure expenses. Participating academic institutions get a master account and up to 100 sub accounts that can be flexibly used for teaching and research purposes. While some other vendors offer limited- capacity software solutions to academia, WebSurveyor provides a full-fledged product with the commercial value of $50,000.

WebSurveyor offers its two-year extendable Academic Grant Program to academic institutions with a marketing, market research, general business, hotel management, computer science, or social science curriculum. Grant recipients get access to high-end software and support materials applicable for collegiate level instruction of the practical use of online surveys. Instructors at universities, colleges, community colleges, business and trade schools are encouraged to apply.

"WebSurveyor has responded to the academic community's need for a robust, flexible online survey solution that doesn't require any additional infrastructure investments," says Tom Lueker, CMO at WebSurveyor. "Students will be mastering the same tool provided by WebSurveyor to companies, nonprofit organizations and government agencies to help them address a variety of business and organizational challenges."

"The new hosted option allows our faculty and students to concentrate on teaching and research, not on time-consuming technology issues," says Dr. Sandra Wilson, Chair of the Doctoral Program in Leadership Studies at Gonzaga University, which was the first to receive the hosted solution through WebSurveyor's Academic Grant program. "Now accounts can be quickly allocated to enable both doctoral researchers and faculty to conduct online surveys directly from a personal computer."

WebSurveyor had been donating its survey software to colleges and universities since 2003. The hosted solution was added to the Academic Grant program to help the participants overcome IT infrastructure limitations. With 118 colleges and universities already enrolled in the program, WebSurveyor has donated a cumulative value of $5.9 million to academic institutions worldwide. Participating universities include Colorado State University, Cornell University, Drexel University, Dubai Women's College, Indiana University, James Madison University, Lynchburg College, McMaster University, Michigan State University, New College of California, the University of Manchester, the University of New Hampshire, the University of Oregon and the University of Southern California. WebSurveyor is incorporated in the popular market research textbooks, published by McGraw-Hill/Irwin, a division of The McGraw- Hill Companies, Inc., Thomson South-Western, Thomson Wadsworth, and Prentice Hall. A new textbook featuring WebSurveyor will be printed by Prentice Hall this fall.

"This wonderful grant is a significant contribution to our much needed process of assessing information from our students, alumni and faculty," writes Martin Hamilton, President of New College of California in a letter to WebSurveyor. "Your support is especially meaningful in a year that has seen unprecedented cuts in funding for education at the state and national level. It means so much to New College, particularly at a time when commitment to the value of education itself is in jeopardy."

Instructors at universities, colleges, community colleges and private educational institutions are eligible to apply. In order to be considered for the grant, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Applicant must be an employee of a university, college, community college, or private educational institution.
  • Applicant must teach at least one course where the use of online surveys can be incorporated into the curriculum and students can be required to complete hands-on exercises or team projects.
  • Applicant cannot already be a WebSurveyor customer.
  • Applicant cannot be employed by, or serve in an advisory capacity, to any company that offers software or hosting services to conduct online surveys.

Interested universities should visit www.websurveyor.com/grant for more information.
