CeBIT 2005: Cincom Smalltalk Provides Efficiency and Economy in Software Development
Schwalbach/Ts., Germany 02.03.2005 — With the latest release of Cincom Smalltalk, which will be presented to the general public at this year's CeBIT in Hanover, March 10-16, Cincom Systems, Inc., one of the world's most experienced software companies, will expand its established position as the leading provider of object-oriented development technology using Smalltalk (Hall 3, Booth B19). The German subsidiary of the Cincinnati, Ohio company, will show how its powerful and highly scalable technologies and services can be used for agile software development, from the simplest applications to highly complex systems. Also presenting at Cincom's booth will be Georg Heeg eK, a Smalltalk expert with years of experience.
For software programmers who want to develop applications fast and effectively, Cincom Smalltalk is the most productive development package. Cincom Smalltalk, which consists of the two development environments VisualWorks and ObjectStudio, is especially suited to the development of highly scalable web-based intranet or internet systems, client-server environments as well as mobile applications. Smalltalk's competitive advantages are high developer productivity-compared to Java, productivity is up to three times higher-and also low maintenance costs, fast time-to-market of the applications, as well as high robustness and stability. Multi-platform compatibility also on mobile platforms
One of the performance components that will have the greatest impact on the market is the support of the Windows CE operating system. Thus Cincom Smalltalk is available also for application development for mobile devices and with the same productivity as for standard platforms. Support for Windows CE allows developers either to easily port existing Smalltalk applications to mobile devices, or to build on Smalltalk productivity advantages to develop specific mobile applications. With the new release developers build applications on their preferred platform, then install the application on any other platform they want, including Windows CE, Windows Mobile for Pocket PC, Windows XP Tablet PC Edition and Linux, without having to make changes. Cincom Smalltalk supports mobile devices using x86, StrongARM, and XScal, as well as Standard Windows, UNIX, Mac, and UNIX workstations and servers.
Integration between Smalltalk and the .NET world
Another substantial new feature of the Cincom Smalltalk Fall 2004 Edition is the availability of .NET Connect which permits, for the first time, the complete interoperability of VisualWorks applications and Microsoft .NET. Using .NET Connect, VisualWorks libraries can be integrated with .NET libraries which creates a bridge between Smalltalk applications and the .NET world.
